Amethyst, Rose Quartz, Tiger's Eyes, Jasper, and Obsidian are only a few of the most popular fossilized minerals or collectible crystals. It's known that every kind of crystal has its distinct unique color and meaning. It's hard to deny these distinctive characteristics can bewitch everyone who sees them and hard for them not to get attracted to the eccentric uniqueness they behold. Therefore, collecting crystals for aesthetic purposes for your house gives a whole new nuance. However, there are several ways to view crystals that somehow attract Gen Zs. Gen Zs nowadays believe that these gems would give them magic powers that contain healing properties that affect their surroundings, aura, luck, and other positive energies.
According to Stanford News, crystals symbolized spiritual purity and perfection and were utilized for religious tools, especially in Christian churches where it was used to decorate Gospel books and other sacred religious items. Preceding their history and religious context, crystals were recorded in ancient Egyptians as their magic formula to ensure protection and health. They used Chrysolite (translated as peridot or Topaz) to drive out evil spirits and soothe the sufferers of night terrors. In their tombs, it is common to see some kinds of crystal such as Amethyst, Carnelian, Emerald, and Lapis Lazuli placed on the body or carved into sarcophagi over the third eye to guide the deceased to the afterlife.
For Gen Zs, collecting crystals is also considered to have positive, uplifting, energizing, and calming vibrations that supposedly affect our bodies and mind that the proponents can achieve a more peaceful mind and a revitalized physical state of being. Even though it hasn't been scientifically proven enough to back up the power of crystal healing to treat or cure conditions, the majority of people who put their belief in these colorful solid materials can vouch that these crystals work for their daily life.
To give a better overview of crystals and whether or not they give certain benefits or effects to our body and mind, I have interviewed a friend of mine, Ferina Giovanca, who is a collector of crystals and happens to believe in their magic.
Ferina stated that she has been a crystal collector since early 2021 when she joined Chakra Yoga class, where everyone brought their crystals she turned very interested ever since. When I asked her how she takes care of her collections, she answered, "I always cleanse my crystals whenever the full moon is on sight, to charge the aura. There's also this tool called Crystal Sound Bath to maximize the cleansing." As she seemed very interested and invested in crystals, I also asked her opinion about her crystal's magic beliefs; Ferina said that believing something, in general, can't be shoved into someone's mindset. Therefore, what she thinks suits her doesn't mean that it's right for everyone.
She thinks that crystals impact her mind, "There's this crystal-infused water bottle which I have, and the crystal inside I chose is Amethyst which is believed to exchange negative aura with the positive one. Believe it or not, whenever I feel stressed about work or everything in general, it vanishes just like if I drank from this infused water bottle crystal, I just feel chill about everything right away." From her statement, Ferina herself thinks that it works for her just like magic.
Her enthusiasm over crystal receives diverse responses from people around her which are mainly positive. Some people who are not into crystals think that her collections are purely aesthetically-pleasing collections worth keeping, yet at the same time, others perceive her straightly like a shaman.
Even though the power of crystal can't be seen but only felt, which is powerful enough. We can't deny that the magic of crystal has been believed and used by many people from time to time since decades ago. However, we can't depend on crystals without an intention as they also need us to cultivate the purpose. You could count your crystal as a touchstone that can help you remember your motivation as you go about your daily life.
