Kendrick Lamar not only went viral because of dissing Drake while performing Not Like Us during the Super Bowl Halftime Show, but he also stole the spotlight with his outfit--rocking Celine's bootcut jeans and blue ride jacket. Lamar wasn't the only one turning heads with bootcut jeans though. This denim style making a comeback on the runway for Fall 2025 and Spring 2025.
Especially with Louis Vuitton's creative director, Pharrell Williams, frequently spotted wearing these flared jeans. So, is this the official comeback of bootcut jeans?
Bootcut Comeback Era
Zak Maoui, Style Director at Gentleman's Journal and former Fashion Editor at GQ, said he saw some positive comments on social media, especially on X, about Kendrick Lamar's Celine bootcut jeans after they went viral. Yet previously, many people mocked Pharrell's bootcut jeans.
This raises the question: Is a viral moment from a well-liked celebrity enough to trigger a revolution in men's style?
"What's interesting is that after several years of flared jeans and trousers surging among vintage menswear enthusiasts emulating Bob Dylan and Serge Gainsbourg, figures like Kendrick and Pharrell have recently been making flares look contemporary rather than retro," says Samuel Hine, senior fashion writer at GQ, as quoted by Vogue.
Bootcut jeans serve as a middle ground between baggy jeans and skinny jeans. Searches for baggy and bootcut jeans have increased by 12% on fashion search platforms over the past three months. However, bootcut jeans still feel like a more challenging silhouette for most men compared to skinny or baggy jeans.
Bootcut styles are often associated with a retro aesthetic that leans more toward fashion-forward trends. Buying consultant Natasha Advani stated that the bootcut or flared jeans trend has the potential to take off commercially in menswear.

"While high fashion and influential artists like Pharrell and Kendrick are already embracing flared silhouettes, mainstream menswear tends to take longer to adapt-especially when shifting away from the dominant baggy, straight-leg cuts that have been popular for years," she said.
Nevertheless, the real impact of a viral trend differs between men's and women's fashion. Men's fashion, traditionally, is not as affected by viral moments but is perhaps more influenced by community and cultural shifts.
Even so, it's easy to experiment with bootcut jeans. For men, if you're going for a more formal style, you can pair it with a shirt in any color and layer it with a blazer or a cardigan. For a more casual look, you can go for a T-shirt paired with a leather jacket or a denim shirt.
You can pair it with a turtleneck or a cropped t-shirt layered with an oversized jacket for a chic, feminine look. Don't forget to wear high heels or heeled boots to elongate your silhouette.
