As LVMH seeks to revive Givenchy, best known for dressing Audrey Hepburn in the Hollywood classic Breakfast at Tiffany's, the brand named Sarah Burton as its new creative director. Burton, the designer at Alexander McQueen up until last year, will take over and present her first collection for both menswear and womenswear, in March 2025.
Givenchy's official Instagram account stated, "Givenchy announces the appointment of Sarah Burton as Creative Director, with immediate effect. Sarah will be responsible for the creative direction of all of the Maison's Women's and Men's collections. "It is a great honor to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel. I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my vision, sensibility, and beliefs," said Sarah Burton. Her first collection will be presented in March 2025."
Sarah Burton served as the creative director of Alexander McQueen from 2010 to 2023. She was named the creative director of Alexander McQueen in 2010, a few months after the founder of the label died at the age of 40.
She's also been known for designing Kate Middleton's iconic wedding dress in 2011. The wedding dress was eye candy at that time with the long lace sleeves, a nine-foot train, and a V-neck décolleté; the gown was admired by over 162 million viewers worldwide. The next year, in 2012, Queen Elizabeth II awarded Burton an Order of the British Empire for her services to the British fashion industry. Alongside British fans like Harry Styles, Cate Blanchett, and the Princess of Wales, of course, the designer also forged steadfast relationships with the Hollywood set.
Naming Sara Burton as the creative director is known to be an attempt to revitalize the label that has failed to reach the same success as other LVMH labels like Celine or Loewe. Burton will take Givenchy's wheel for the men's and women's collections. Her first collection for the label will be unveiled on the runway of Paris Fashion Week next year, in March 2025.
