With fashion's embrace of football, the previously-distant worlds come closer together with each fashion season. While football and style has always intermingled from the side of the players and fans, fashion's newly widespread appreciation for the sport has resulted in exciting collaborations in recent memory. Sure, Yohji Yamamoto has collaborated with Real Madrid even almost a decade ago, but recent microtrends have really driven fashion houses to take notice of the culture—Prada included.
Admittedly, when Prada and adidas' first collaboration dropped, it was not what fans of both brands expected. Their first collaboration took the form of a premium adidas Superstar, made with Prada's artisanal craftsmanship and high quality leather. Of course, it's all about the details and the shoes are highly wearable, but the lack of innovative design elements aside from Prada's logo stamped on the shoes' lateral heel left many feeling underwhelmed. The pair went on to collaborate in other silhouettes, but none are as exciting as their latest one under the adidas Football for Prada collection.
The football boot collection consists of adidas' Predator Accuracy, the Copa Pure, and X Crazyfast models. The designs incorporate signature touches from Prada's Linea Rossa line in adidas Football's archive silhouettes, creating a sleek and futuristic on-pitch gear. Since the boots are engineered and intended to be played in, it sets apart the collaboration from other football-meets-fashion collections. This collection, at long last, has achieved the potential that both brands are capable of—marrying function, sophistication, and legacy of both the collaborators. Aside from the real-life pitch, the collection will also appear virtually in the FIFA 23 Ultimate Team game, with in-game versions of the black and white colorways.
The adidas Football for Prada collection is available starting from May 25. Head on to Prada's website for more information.
