To gain more audience and growth, brands often collaborate with other brands and release limited collections, a practice intended to keep the business going. Even high-end brands have collaborated with fast fashion brands. For instance, Balmain x H&M or Uniqlo x Jil Sander. While collaborations from similar industries are considered normal, some cross-sector companies collaborations like IKEA x Off-White or HUF x Spam are also released to gain market awareness. At glance, you may think it doesn't make sense, but somehow they made it happen. So, here are five unexpected brand collaborations you could never foresee!
KFC X Crocs
Nobody asked, but they made it. KFC and Crocs collaborated and released a pair of printed fried chicken shoes (if I could add, they look horrendous). The outsoles were covered in red and white stripes, resembling a KFC chicken bucket. It also comes with two charms that are shaped like chicken drums, which are also designed to smell like fried chicken. To quite a surprise, these shoes were sold out in just half an hour! Would you wear this?
Samyang X Tony Moly
Samyang is famous for its spicy ramen noodles, and after the K-invasion, it became one of the Asian favorite snacks. Joining hands with fellow Korean companies, Tony Moly releases a makeup line named Hot Edition inspired by Samyang's Buldak Spicy Ramen. From this collaboration, they introduced Hot Coverdak Cushion, which its refills were made to look like a hot sauce packet. Other than that, there's also a burning red shade of cheek blush and lip products, but fret not; it won't feel spicy when you put it on your lips! You can also get a 70-gram Spicy Fried Noodle Buldak Bokkeummyun Cup alongside those makeup variants.
Dear Me Beauty x SASA
This one comes from two local brands, Dear Me Beauty and SASA. I think it was the first time I heard of a local beauty brand collaborating with a seasoning product, so I found it very absurd but intriguing at the same time. This makeup line consists of Matte Lip Coat, Airy Poreless Powder, and MSG Eyeshadow Palette. Its packaging is designed all in white, along with SASA Gourmet Powder's infamous blue and red pattern circling the products. There's no limit to creativity, Dear Me Beauty previously have collaborated with Nissin and Yupi too!
Upmost Beaute x Tolak Angin
Another local brand collaboration, Upmost Beaute released a Honey Glazed Eyeshadow Palette with Tolak Angin. It comes with eight neutral shades that are inspired by herbalĀ ingredients within Tolak Angin, such as mint, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, clove, tamarind, and fennel. On its launching day, they provide a PR kit that consists of Honey Glazed Eyeshadow Palette, Tolak Angin sachets and candy, cute tote bag, pouch, yellow eye mask, stickers, and mini Tolak Angin pillow. This unique collaboration was anticipated by many people, as Tolak Angin is very close to their hearts.
Nike x Ben & Jerrys
If you are a Ben & Jerry's lover, you might like this one! Last year, Nike released a Ben & Jerry-inspired SB Dunk Low that is designed to mimic its ice cream container. The green outsole depicts the green hillside seen on the container, with the shoe's leather covered in a cow faux-printed. All in all, it's a mix of many eye-catching colors and is suitable to brighten up your look!
There you have it, brand collaborations you might never expect them to collaborate with, but somehow they made it work!
