Series to Revisit This Halloween

The Haunting of the Hill House

There's a reason The Haunting of Hill House has captivated so many viewers. It combines an eerie atmosphere with a soft yet striking sound design, with non-linear storytelling that will never fail to keep anyone on edge. Rather than leaning on jump scares, The Haunting of Hill House chose a slow-burn psychological-thriller drama, blending suspense and emotion in a way that screams modern horror.

It's beautifully haunting and undoubtedly becomes Mike Flanagan's most memorable work-one that will linger with viewers for years to come. It's probably why it's the first series we mention in this list, too.

Scream Queens

Ryan Murphy and his team of collaborators have indeed left a legacy on TV series over the past few decades. However, Scream Queens might just be their most entertaining project yet.

Airing for two seasons in the mid-2010s, this campy mystery is both a playful whodunit and a love letter to classic slasher films. Not to mention that the Scream Queens series featured a star-studded cast, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Keke Palmer, Lea Michelle, Glen Powell, and even brief but memorable appearances from Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas. It's the perfect dose of campy fun for any horror fan. It's a perfect blend of whodunnit-horror and chick flick-what more could we ask for?

Wednesday

Though it's fairly recent, Wednesday deserves a spot on this list. Consider this a little refresher before diving into the next season that will soon arrive on Netflix. It's a fresh spin on the classic Addams Family story that we can't get enough of, brought to life by Jenna Ortega's captivating performance and the enigmatic world crafted by Tim Burton's signature style. It's still a perfect pick for a cozy Halloween night.

American Horror Story: Murder House

Yes, it's another Ryan Murphy creation-guilty as charged. American Horror Story, or simply AHS, stands out as Murphy's most popular work after Glee. The first season of this long-running anthology series remains one of its most unforgettable, following the Harmon family as they settle into a haunted mansion in Los Angeles.

This series also introduced us to some of the most memorable actors in the AHS universe, like Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Jessica Lange. But don't expect traditional scares here-it's less about terror and more about campy, unsettling vibes, with a mix of sex, serial killers, and unexpected supernatural twists. Many of the characters in this season are inspired by real-life crime cases, including the Black Dahlia and notorious mass murderer Richard Speck.

Revisiting this one will feel like being transported back to the grunge Tumblr days, and we're totally here for it.

There you have it, four exciting series that you can rewatch or watch for the first time during the darkest and spookiest night of the year. Happy Halloween!
