Renowned Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, known for his critically acclaimed films Oldboy (2003), Lady Vengeance (2005), and The Handmaiden (2016), is set to make his OTT debut with Uprising. Collaborating with director Kim Sang-man (Girl Scout), Park will bring this historical action drama to life.

Uprising tells a gripping story of friendship, loyalty, and betrayal, set against the backdrop of social class tensions during the Joseon era. The plot centers on two childhood friends who become bitter enemies during the Japanese invasions of Korea. In the opening scenes, we see Cheon-yeong (Gang Dong-won) and Jong-ryeo (Park Jeong-min) share a deep bond despite their differing social status-one is a master, the other, a slave.

Determined to rise above his circumstances, Cheon-yeong joins the militia in a bid to reclaim his honor. His exceptional swordsmanship earns him the fearsome title of "the blue-robed god." Meanwhile, Jong-ryeo, hailing from one of Joseon's most powerful military families, feels betrayed by Cheon-yeong's actions, leading to the dissolution of their friendship. As war breaks out, the rift between them deepens, with Jong-ryeo becoming a high-ranking officer, setting the two on opposing sides.

The film's poster captures this tense rivalry, with Cheon-yeong and Jong-ryeo poised for battle, each dressed in symbolic blue and red robes that reflect their diverging paths.

The star-studded cast includes Gang Dong-won (Broker, Peninsula), Park Jeong-min (Decision to Leave, Time to Hunt), Cha Seung-won (Believer, Night in Paradise), Kim Shin-rock (Sweet Home, Hellbound), Jin Sun-kyu (Extreme Job, Space Sweepers), and Jung Sul-il (The Glory, Bad and Crazy).

Uprising will have its world premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival on October 2, ahead of its Netflix release on October 11.
