ARMYs are eating well for the next few weeks; amidst Jimin's promotion with his solo album FACE as well as people trying to secure tickets for SUGA's upcoming solo shows, we're getting new SUGA music soon!
Even though the superstar has produced his own music for the past 10 years, SUGA is releasing his first official (aka non-mixtape) album this April called D-DAY, just a few weeks before he embarks on his solo tour—which also makes him become the first BTS member to ever hold a solo world tour. In tune with his pseudonym, Agust D, D-DAY will be the third and final release in a trilogy of SUGA as Agust D music, following 2016's Agust D and 2020's D-2 mixtapes.
In BTS, SUGA is known as one of the members who holds a prominent role in producing music for the band. The Korean rapper has been interested in songwriting since his early days. Initially, he would join Bighit Entertainment as a producer, albeit switching his tracks to become a BTS member in the end. As of 2022, 147 songs have been attributed to him as a writer and composer by the Korean Music Copyright Association (KOMCA). Similar to his fellow members, SUGA had made his producing skills known through remarkable collaborations with respected artists such as IU, Epik High, Psy, Halsey, and Coldplay.
How do you make something universal yet still feel personal? Undaunted, SUGA has always been consistent in carefully speaking his mind and translating them to his works where it always comes in an introspective format of the twenty years of his life. Agust D was a summary of all the turbulence he had experienced just to get where he was at the moment; D-2 displays a retrospective view in respect to his previous self, dreams, and desires. Through his profound lyrics which mostly derive from either his experience or his takes on eclectic themes, his passion for music and his ability to convey certain moments or feelings are perhaps what makes SUGA's works somehow unpredictable yet easy to be welcomed by both his fans and the critics.
Hence, the birth of D-DAY is rather a pleasant surprise from the musician slash producer who has been praised for his 'Midas Touch.' Maybe the album will signify the conclusion, or even a beginning of a new chapter of his life. As the official release stated, succeeding the previous mixtapes, Agust D and D-2, the new album delves into the personal journey of SUGA as Agust D, offering an intimate portrayal of his life as an artist. Welcoming the album, expect a single release on April 7th before the full album drops on April 21st, 2023.

Our predictions say that the 30 years old rapper will conclude his solo activities this year as the enlistment deadline is approaching. It didn't come from empty assumptions of course-J-hope, the third oldest member of the group, was the second member to have his own solo works. As far as we remember, J-hope released an album, did a documentary and commentary, headlined a big festival, struck a collab with his muse J.Cole—all checked within a year before he finally answered the mandatory military service calls. So, it's highly possible that it won't be much different for SUGA, only that he decided to take the bigger route and went for a whopping world tour.
That also leaves the maknaes, V and Jungkook as the remaining members in BTS who haven't gotten their solo album released. But hey, it's BTS—anything can happen anytime.
