A sad film is somehow an effective tool in letting out the build-up frustration that you didn't even know existed, or one where you just don't know how to release them. Since you clicked this article, I figured you're in dire need of a good cry. Well, you've come to the right place because here are five tear-jerker movies that will leave you ugly crying all night.
P.S. I hope everything is alright.

The first one is a sweet movie about a terminally ill mother, diagnosed with stage 4 cancer who plans to reconcile her daughter with her father who had left the family a year ago. Her Love Boils Bathwater deals with loss, heartbreak, courage, and love. It's packed with a heartwarming and heart-wrenching scene that you won't notice some tears slipping down unconsciously. One word, Futaba best mom!
Grave of The Fireflies (1988)

I'd feel guilty if I didn't add this one to the list, even though it's one of Ghibli's most well-known titles. For you who are not yet acquainted with Grave of The Fireflies, it tells the story of a four-year-old girl and her brother who struggle to survive and stay together amidst the terrifying terror of World War II in Japan. Now, just because it's a cartoon that was released in the 80s, doesn't mean it won't invite tears to stream down your face. Trust me, it's very heartbreaking no matter how much you've watched it. So, for those who already gave it a watch, this is a sign to give it another one.
Roma (2018)

Set in the 70s, Roma follows the life of Cleo, a domestic worker in an upper-middle class household in the Colonia Roma neighborhood of Mexico City who takes care of four children belonging to Sofia and Antonio. The conflict soon arises as Sofia's marriage is trembling and Cleo's boyfriend leaves her after finding out that she is pregnant. Even though the plotline seems simple, Roma is a deeply melancholic masterpiece that celebrates womanhood, family, life, loss, and love.
A Silent Voice (2017)

Another worth-watching animation; A Silent Voice centers on the story of the relationship between Shouko, a high schooler who is deaf, and Ishida who bullied her during elementary school. When the two reunite at the same school, Ishida tries his best to make amends even though he feels unworthy of redemption. It's a touching story that's beautifully written and crafted with pleasing details in its animation.
Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008)

Filmmaker Kurt Kuenne produced a documentary film about his close friend, Andrew Bagby, who was murdered by his ex-girlfriend, Shirley Jane Turner. When Shirley was arrested as a suspect, she shortly announced that she was pregnant with Andrew's child, a boy she named Zachary. Surprisingly, this film was only made as a project intended to be shown to friends and family of Andrew. So yes, expect interviews of numerous relatives, friends, and associates of Andrew which were combined to offer a cinematic scrapbook for the son who would never know his father. Get the tissues ready!
