Co-star, Pattern, Time Passages, and Sanctuary. At least one of these leaders in astrological apps must have been installed, especially for those who consider themselves, Gen Zs. It is clearly a resurgence of astrology after the spiking popularity of astrology magazine (the only access we could get for daily horoscopes) back in the 1990s and early 2000s. With this easy access to daily readings and forecasts offered by these advanced applications, we're unconsciously getting driven and somehow it affects our actions. According to a report by Fullscreen, a mystical-driven culture is arising among 18 to 34-year-olds as 43% would make life decisions based on a horoscope or tarot reading, and 1 out of 3 people agree that astrology is one way to make sense of things that are happening in their life.
It is no wonder that other apps, for example, most dating apps are now taking the chance to promote this current belief of Gen Z as well by using zodiac signs as an addition to their system for the users to filter what kind of person they want to meet or match with according to their signs. This is an indication that the current generation or Gen Z majorly leans towards the perspective of astrology to help them decide most of their life decisions, even when it comes to a love partner! There is an abundant amount of sociohistorical perspective of consulting with people who understand astrology before making an important life decision based on it.
To provide an overview regarding this topic, I have interviewed one of my friends, a Gen Z who has major belief in astrology for as long as I know her. Her name is Dinda, a 23-year-old woman who's currently pursuing her master's degree in Malaysia.
"To say I'm a firm believer in astrology is an overstatement. But I think I do associate a lot of things with astrology since even though it's not 100% accurate, it could give me enough picture of how a person is like and it somehow helps me in many ways.", then she continued "It is also a way for me to validate someone's actions when they're behaving in certain ways, like 'Oh, no wonder, she's a Gemini.'"
As a Gen Z, she holds her belief in astrology to overview people's behavior and how she should treat them differently according to their individual signs' traits. By knowing people's zodiac signs, it's easy for her to adjust herself to making friends, keeping them amused, and giving consolations whenever they're down. So far, her based-on-astrology actions have helped her a lot according to her statement. This is proof that Gen Z does make decisions and actions based on their astrology and zodiac signs beliefs.
Not just Dinda, another friend of mine, Ferina, is also a strong believer in astrology and horoscopes. Based on my interview with her, she also stated that astrology does help her to face or deal with people according to their zodiac signs.
"It's not entirely applicable to me most of the time, I use these horoscope signs as my way to deal with people, for example, if my boyfriend is a Virgo then I'd rather be more straightforward to him in terms of communication."
According to her statement, it can be pointed out that she chooses ways of communicating with people around her based on the interlocutor's zodiac sign. This is an indicator that astrology affects her way of thinking which then leads to her actions and how she would behave in front of people, depending on the zodiac.
It is indeed undeniable that women are most likely to be the group of society who believe in astrology compared to men. According to the 2018 Pew Research Poll, there are 29% of people in America believe in astrology and it's also found that women are most likely to believe in astrology for 37% than men are with only 20%. Therefore, I have also interviewed my guy friend to know about the reasoning behind his skepticism in astrology and his views regarding people who make decisions and actions based on it. His name is Trealdi, my fellow Gen Z friend who just graduated from college.
When I asked him about his perspective on astrology and opinion upon people who constantly acts on astrology views, he answered, "In my honest opinion, it's quite stupid that people who are in relationship to put too much belief in astrology forecast, as it could damage your feelings and limit your way of thinking. Meanwhile, a relationship is supposed to be based on mutual feelings, trust, and love."
Well, if we think about it. What Trealdi has to say actually has a point that makes us all have to reconsider the concept of adjusting to astrology in our lives. Since everything doesn't revolve around stars, whether or not it's about love and relationship. But it's not a sin to have something that we hold on to as an axis in our lives. However, just don't get inclined on it too much that it affects your whole being as a human.
To sum it all up, believing in astrology and depending on it as your way of thinking to decide or act on something is not a wrong thing to do, as long as it floats your boat, then be it. Astrology itself is indeed a fun and interesting way for us to get to know people. But you also need to realize that depending everything on astrology or Co-star notifications for daily insights or daily reading is not supposed to be taken too seriously no matter how personalized they are, as your life is way more than that, bigger than that and more complex than a mere forecast.
